This tutorial will walk you through creating an Inbound Email Writer App that generates personalized emails based on customer details and campaign context.
Let's get started!
Step 1: Create Your App
Let’s start by creating your app.
-
On the left navbar, navigate to AI Apps and click on the Builder page.
-
Click on the Create new app button. A pop-up will appear asking for some details about your app.
Here’s what to do:
- App Name: Choose a simple, clear name like “Inbound Email Writer.”
- App Description: Describe what your app does, such as, "Generate personalized inbound email content based on customer/lead details and campaign context."
- Click on the "Create" button to create your app.
Step 2: Set Up Your App on the Builder Page
Creating an app with take you to the Builder page, where you will set up how your app will generate emails. The page has three main sections: the Prompt, Placeholders, and Playground. Let’s go through each section.
Instruction Prompt
The Instruction Prompt is where you tell the AI what kind of email you want it to create. Think of it as giving the AI the basic instructions for writing the email.
You can start with a simple, clear prompt like this: "Write a personalized inbound email to a potential customer about a new product feature."
This is a good start, but let’s make it more specific. The more detailed your prompt is, the better the AI will perform.
Refine your prompt like this: "Write a personalized email addressing the customer’s pain points, introducing a new product feature. Keep the tone professional but friendly, and encourage the recipient to learn more."
Notice how this version is more specific? We have told the AI to focus on the customer’s pain points, use a friendly yet professional tone, and include a call-to-action (encouraging the reader to learn more). This gives the AI more direction and ensures the email feels more targeted.
Now, if you want to get even more specific and make sure your email prompt is just right, you can use Markov’s AI Prompt Generator. This tool will help you refine your prompt quickly. Let's see how.
-
Click on the "Generate a Prompt" button at the top-right of the instruction prompt box.
-
A pop-up will appear where you can describe your task. This is where you can add more details about what you need the email to focus on.
For example, you could describe your task as:
“I need to write a personalized email for a lead, addressing their specific challenges and introducing a new feature of our product. The tone should be helpful and professional, and I want to include a clear call to action at the end.” -
Once you have described what you want, click "Generate". The AI will suggest a more refined prompt. It might look something like this: "Act as a professional sales and marketing expert. Craft a personalized email template for a lead or customer that acknowledges their specific challenges and introduces a relevant new feature of your product. Ensure the tone remains helpful and professional throughout. Conclude with a strong and clear call to action, encouraging the recipient to engage with the product or service further. Consider including any incentive, demo options, or contact details for easy follow-up."
-
Once satisfied, click on the "Select" button, and the instruction prompt section will be updated with the new prompt, as shown below.
This new prompt gives the AI clear instructions, ensuring the email is professional, targeted, and effective. You've told it exactly what tone to use and what action to encourage, so the email will be right on point!
Placeholder Text
Once you have your prompt ready, you can make the app flexible by adding placeholders. These are areas where users can input their own details, like the customer’s name or the product feature being introduced.
This makes the app reusable — you don’t have to rewrite the prompt every time you want to create a new email. You simply tell the users what new details should be input for the app to generate a fresh email each time. Such as, "Give customer/lead name, pain points, product features, and CTA, if any."
Playground
After setting up your prompt and placeholders, it's time to test the app. Go to the Playground and enter different inputs to see if the app generates the type of emails you want. If the result isn't quite right, you can tweak the prompt or the placeholders until the output is perfect.
Step 3: Publish Your App
Once you’re happy with the app and it’s creating the posts as expected, it’s time to share it. Click Publish to make your LinkedIn Post Creator app available to all.
You can find it both on the Live apps page and on the Builder page under published apps, as shown below.
